The substantive part of this letter was included in a lengthy obituary of M published in Chemist and druggist of Australasia, vol. 11, pp. 267-70, on p. 270 (B96.11.02). The original letter probably accompanied an offprint of M's paper (see n. 4) to Germany, where the paper was republished in Botanisches Centralblatt (B95.12.02).

as just a very remarkable new plant has been received from near Coolgardie.

WA.
I should very much like, that its description appears already in this months "Chemist and Druggist".

The new plant was Statice macphersoni, ‘from the vicinity of Coolgardie’, one of two species described in B95.10.01 despite the title of the article suggesting that they were both from 'North-western Australia'. It appears that Piper added the new description to an existing manuscript describing Trianthema cussackiana, which is indeed from the north-west of WA, but did not change the title appropriately.
As the description is not a long one, you can perhaps kindly manage this still. It may be a very long time til I can offer so interesting a novelty to your pages.

It may be ... to your pages. is marked by double lines in the margin and annotated: 'Baron Ferdinand von Mueller, Botaniker, Melbourne, Australia Vor kurzem gestorben.' […Recently died.]
Very regardfully your
