Endlich komme ich dazu, nach und nach den vielen Freunden zu danken, welche, lieber Herr Tepper, mich zum Eintritt in die 8tn Decade meines Lebens beglückwünscht haben, u so bringe ich auch Ihnen meinen Dank dar.

Ehegestern habe ich den letzten Probebogen der 9tn Edition der Select Plants revisirt, u so ist denn diese Extra-Arbeit in einer ohnehin schweren Zeit erledigt, u meine Arbeitskraft für andere Zwecke mehr frei. Ich werde Ihnen u Hr Krichauff u Hr. Dr Mücke diese neue Ausgabe als Privat Geschenk im Lauf von August senden können. Sie werden sehen, dass solche um etwa 60 Seiten erweitert ist, u um etwa 100 Pflanzen-Arten. Hr Krichauff, den Sie als sein Nachbar für mich begrüssen möchten, wird seinen Namen in der Vorrede gennant finden, auch Mr Molineux. Leider habe ich die agricultur Journale der 6 austral. Agricultur Bureaus nicht immer genau durchsehen könnten. Sollten Sie u Hr Krichauff u Mr Molineux wichtige Auslassungen aus diesen Quellen finden, so wäre ich dankbar wenn Sie alle mir solche auf loosen (nur einerseits) beschriebenen Blättern niederschreiben wollen mit ihrer respectiven Unterschrift; denn selbstverständlich arbeite ich gleich weiter für die 10tn Ausgabe, welche wohl posthume sein wird. Die 9te mag sich noch schneller als die 8te aus der Regierungsdruckerei verkaufen, da nun das Werk ziemlich bekannt geworden ist. Advertisirt wurde keine der Ausgaben.

Nun kann ich auch trotz vieler rückständige Correspondenz doch bald wieder das Bennenen von Sammlungen vornehmen, zumal da die Tage länger werden.

Es hat mich innig erfreuet, dass die Colonie S. Austr. auch meiner so gütig gedachte beim Jubiläum, selbst der Vertreter der Königin. Ich sprach hier im deutschen Verein wohl nicht ohne Begeisterung freilich sehr ermüdet, ein Amateur, ohne dass ich es wusste gütig stenographirte u sandte mehrere Tage nachher das Manuscript, welches ich im grossen Druck rückständiger Arbeiten ungelesen beim Abgang der Post. Dies erklärt das Unzusammenhängen u etwas Unrichtige des Drucks meiner Dankrede. Hr Anjoy der Stenograph will mir freundlichst eine kurze Notiz über diese Zufall senden, welche ich denn an Hr Basedow befördern werde mit Dankworten über die grosse Güte welche die Adelaide Zeitung mir erwiesen.

At last I am able gradually to thank the many friends, who, dear Mr Tepper, have congratulated me on entry into the 8th decade of my life and so I also offer you my thanks.

The day before yesterday I revised the last proofs of the 9th edition of the Select plants,

and so this extra work is finished in an already difficult time, and my capacity for work is more free for other purposes. I will be able to send you and Mr Krichauff and Dr Mücke this new edition as a private present in the course of August. You will see that it is enlarged by about 60 pages and by about 100 plant species. Mr Krichauff, whom you as his neighbour might greet for me, will find his name mentioned in the preface, also Mr Molineux. Unfortunately I have not always been able to check the agricultural journals of the six Australian agricultural bureaux carefully. Should you and Mr Krichauff and Mr Molineux find important omissions from these sources, I would be grateful if you all would write down such for me on loose written (only one side) sheets with your respective signatures; since of course I will immediately continue working for the 10th edition, which will probably be posthumous .

No 10th edition was published.

The 9th may sell out even more quickly than the 8th from the Government printery, since the work has now become reasonably well known. None of the editions were advertised.

Now despite much overdue correspondence, I can also indeed soon carry out the naming of collections, especially since the days become longer.

It has profoundly delighted me that the Colony of South Australia also thought of me so kindly in the case of the jubilee, even the representative of the Queen.

I spoke here in the Deutscher Verein probably not without enthusiasm, admittedly very tired. An amateur, without my knowing it, kindly took shorthand and sent the manuscript several days after, which I did not read in the great press of overdue work on the departure of the mail. This explains the incoherence and somewhat incorrectness of the printing of my speech to return thanks.
