Letter not found. The text given here is from 'A new find. Gold at Mount Sir Samuel', West Australian, 8 July 1895, p. 6. The item is a report of a prospecting exploration by Clarence Brown, sponsored by a syndicate promoted by E. H. Wittenoom. The journey lasted nine months and ended in July. The date given here is the last month that the communication with M could have been made; it is not certain that Brown himself sent the specimens.
[Near Mount Holmes, Mr. Brown came upon a considerable area of country which he describes as poison country, the poison being a plant which he has not met with before. It grows to a height of eight feet and has a flower not unlike the wattle. A piece of the plant has been sent to Baron Von Mueller for examination. One of the camels ate of this scrub and although the party had all the known remedies for camel sicknesses with them they failed to prevent the loss of the animal.]
