This day, dear Prof. Milne-Edwards, I have shipped a small case to your Museum by the French Mail-Steamer "Australien" under care of Mons Ailland, who also on former occasions has seen to the transshipment in Marseille. The case contains a foetus of a Marsupial, a snake, a number of giant earthworms and in the same Alcohol miscellaneous insects. For Prof M. Cornu resin of Xanthorrhoea Preiss[ii] and for Prof Lacroix 2 large specimens of rare minerals. Let me kindly know, when the case arrived if the contents are in a good state and valuable to your grand Museum.
I have again written to you in the English language, as it takes me much more time to write in French, but as your name implies you must be of English Descent, so you will be well conversant with the english language.
I will endeavour to send something to you by every voyage of the "Australien", though it is often difficult to secure rarities .
With regardful remembrance your
Ferd von Mueller
