Dear Baron Von Mueller,
I am sending by this post a number of botanical Specimens from Mount Bischoff.
Those that are loose (not tied with string) are from within fifty feet (as to level)
of the apex of the mountain; those that are bound with string are from a lower level
where the soil is of better quality though about a hundred feet higher than the adjacent
table land and are all from the south side of the mountain which is exposed to the
coldest winds. I have included a leaf of blandfordia
but something, I think goats, seem to have been cropping this plant on the mountain.

Please inform me as to the names of those specimens I have numbered 1, 2 and 3 and
of the specimens with the red and blue berries.
with kind regards
yours truly,
James Smith
P.S. No. 1, which seems to me to be a variety of native laurel, has when in a state
of rottenness in scrubs, a very offensive smell.
