Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Answers to correspondents', Leader, 8 December 1894, p. 13 (B94.12.02). It is introduced by 'Exporting Seeds,— F.G.—, Korumburra.— We have consulted Baron von Mueller on the subject of sending seeds to Carniola, who replies:—'.

and ; the hardier Eucalypts (E. amygdalina, E. Gunnii, E. pauciflora), of these the seeds germinate most easily, but those of the Wattle require soaking before sowing. It would, however, be best that any seeds sent there be entrusted to a skilful professional gardener for raising. You might send various seeds of your locality for trial, as it would then be found out which of the plants will endure the clime, and which would not. The chances of hardiness would, of course, be much greater for Australian plants on the Austrian Islands of the Adriatic Sea, where the clime is almost winterless. The seed should be sown in spring.
