MS accompanied by an envelope dated Melbourne, 4/10/1894, addressed to Schröder. Filed with the MS is a separately printed extract from The Record (South Melbourne), 2 June 1894, with the text of M's speech at the Turn Verein, Melbourne, on 22 April 1894, noting the marriage that day of the Grand Duke of Hesse to Queen Victoria's grand-daughter, Princess Victoria (B94.06.04).

Lassen Sie, edler Herr, meinen besten Dank ausgesprochen sein für die erneueten u ermuthigenden Worte und für das gütige Andenken, welches Sie mir bewahren. Nachdem ich nun genau weiss, was sich von meinen Werken in der Bibliothek seiner Kgl Hoheit unseres erhabenen Landes-Herrn befindet, werde ich versuchen die Series zu ergänzen. Freilich kann dies nur nach u nach geschehen, denn das Fehlende ist nicht mehr direct erlangbar u muss gelegentlich erworben werden.

Ich sende aber diesmal nur die 8te Ausgabe der "Select plants", welcher die neunte, deo volente, im nächsten Jahre folgen wird, vervollständigt bis zur Jetztzeit durch Notizen welche ich während der letzten 4 Jahre geschrieben habe. Es ist gewissermassen ein Triumpf,das Werk so schnell durch viele Ausgabe gehen zu sehen; es steht in so weit einzig da für Australien.

Now that I know exactly which of my works are in the library of His Royal Higness our illustrious sovereign, I shall try to complete the series. Of course this can only happen gradually, because the missing is no longer directly obtainable and must be acquired when there is an opportunity.

But this time I am sending only the 8th edition of the Select Plants,

of which the ninth will follow next year,

God willing, complete up the present time by notes that I have written in the last 4 years. It is to an extent a triumph to see the work go through many editions so quickly. In this respect it is unique for Australia.
