Schliesst sich das Tannin dieses Rumex am nächsten dem der Eiche, oder der Acacien, oder des Rhus oder einer anderen Tannin Sorte an. Dies zu wissen ist ja von grosser Wichtigkeit, um eine Idee von dem wahre Werth dieser neue Gerbewurzel zu erlangen. Ich habe Samen hier vertheilt, würde aber für etwas mehr frische Samen, die dieser Herbst dort reiften, recht verpflichtet sein.

in the tanneries of California?
Is the tannin of this Rumex closest to that of the oak, or the Acaciae or the Rhus or one of the other tannin types. To know this is indeed of great importance to get an idea of the true worth of this new tanning root.

information supplied by Hilgard that in tanning, 'the root is best used fresh or converted into an extract, as in drying it deteriorates'.
I have distributed seeds here but would be very obliged for some more fresh seeds that ripen there this autumn.
