Resolved. That in congratulating Baron von Mueller on the occasion of the honour recently
conferred upon him by the Institute of France,
the President and Council of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia, Sydney
desire to record their appreciation of the valuable services which the Baron has rendered
to the world in the cause of science; and they sincerely trust that continued health
and a prolonged life may enable him to extend his researches in those branches of
science the successful study of which has long since caused his name to be enrolled
amongst the most eminent savants of the age —

M had apparently been misled by a letter he had received from the French botanist
G. A. Chatin into thinking he had been elected; see M to L. Dejardin, 5 August 1895 (in this edition as 95-08-05a) and notes thereto. He was elected a year later, on 1 July 1895.
