lebend bei Ihnen ankam, durch die Fürsorge des Marine-Stabsarztes Dr Kugler, welchem prächtigen Manne ich auch meinerseits den besten Dank für seine Mühe durch Sie erstatten möchte.

Ich bin um so froher da ich durch diesen dauernden Beitrag zu Ihren Gewächshaus-Pflanzen nun doch auch etwas aus meiner Schuld bei Ihnen kommen. Seit mehreren Jahren sind die Finanz-Verhältnisse der Colonie ja auch so sehr bedrückend für meine Anstalt gewesen, so dass ich keinen Sammler mehr im Felde halten konnte, u daher auch keiner Herbarium-Pfl. zum Vertheilen habhaft wurde. Die typische Sammlung, welche den Formen-Kreis der Arten und deren Verbreitung darlegt, ist an überschüssigen Exemplaren fast gar nichts darbietend. Ich werde aber doch auch bei Ihnen wie bei einigen anderen bot Creditoren durch besondere Anstrengung das Schuldmass bald zu verringern suchen. Ihre Pracht Sammlung der österreichische Pfl. ist unter den vorzüglichsten, welche dem Publikum hier in meinen 2 Herbarium Saalen gezeigt wird.

Mittel für Lithographische Werke sind in dem Departement auch nicht mehr da, so dass ich einstweilen weder an Ihre Akademie noch an Sie, noch an Hr Dr G. Beck neue Publicationen senden kann. Aber die 9te (wieder erweiterte) Ausgabe der Select plants wird zeitig 1895 erscheinen u. soll Ihnen dann auch wieder zugehen. Ich besitze Ihr herrliches Werk, "das Pflanzen Leben", u freue mich, dass es nun auch englischer Lesern u Studirenden zugänglich wird.

arrived in living condition at your place through the care of Navy staff physician Dr Kugler, to which splendid man on my part I would also like to return best thanks through you for his trouble.

I am so much more pleased because now I do come somewhat out of my debt to you through this lasting contribution to your hothouse plants. For many years the financial conditions of the colony have also been so very depressing for my institution that I could no longer keep a collector in the field, and therefore I also no longer get hold of herbarium plants for distribution. The typical collection which shows the aggregate of species and their distribution is offering almost nothing at all in surplus of specimens. But of course I will also soon try to reduce the mass of debt to you as well as some other botanical creditors by special effort. Your magnificent collection of Austrian plants is among the most superb that is shown to the public here in my 2 herbarium rooms.

Funds for lithographic works are also no longer available in the department, so that meanwhile I cannot send new publications to your academy nor to you nor to Dr G. Beck. However, the 9th (again enlarged) edition of the Select plants
