Let me kindly know, dear Mr Deane, whether I sent you the information required for
the new part of Mr Fitzgeralds Orchideous plants,
or whether — as it occasionally happened I
stopped
short
at the intention.
The correspondence in my branch of the public service is so enormous (6000 letters
in 1893) that I only get the strictly official letters copied, so I am not certain
whether I carried out what you wished. My intentions to do so are always genuine,
but in the overwhelming and multifarious engagements with quite inadequate aid, subjects
may pass from my memory. If I am proving thus perhaps inattentive to you, kindly remind me by some few lines. Let me also know
in some way the exact information needed. I suppose, you want notes on the geographic range of particular species. I may not always have
much to add, to what is published in the Flora,
the Fragmenta and other works also on Australian orchids

Fitzgerald (1875-1894); Deane worked up vol. 2, part 5, the final part to be published. The part is undated but is usually given
as 1894 (TL2; 'Donations' in
Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales, vol. 20, p. 213 dates vol. 2, parts 3-5 as (1888-94)). Part 5 was evidently published late in 1894 as
Sydney morning herald, 18 January 1895, p. 3, announced that it had received a copy from the Government Printer.

Bentham (1863-78), vol. 6, pp. 266-396.
Ever with regardful remembrance your
Ferd. von Mueller.
