The Chevalier
De Jardin, Consul General for France
Herewith, dear Consul, I beg to send for Tunis freshly collected seeds of three of
the best kinds of Sheep-Saltbushes from Riverina,
also seeds — not before sent out — of one of the principle Eucalyptus, the timber
of which is utilized for wood-bricks in paving the streets of Sydney
(
F.v.M.) a species naturally restricted to a small area in N.S. Wales. I trust, that
these seeds will prove acceptable; at all events this sending will show, that I have
not forgotten your requirements.

I may add, that thwo
out of the three sorts of saltbushes, of which I send now seeds, became introduced
by me into South-Africa, where by their copious seeding they became naturalized as
one of the most wholesome and nutritious kinds of sheep-pasturage from the Cape-land
to Transvaal already.
