An occasion has arisen, dear Dr Ramsay, for comparative investigations in the tribe of Algs, to which belongs. May I ask then in the interest of science, whether any measures could be taken, perhaps during the Easter Holidays for renewed dredging, to secure if possible fruiting specimens of this very rare and remarkable plant.

M had been pressing Ramsay to collect specimens of this seaweed that included fruiting bodies since 1882; see M to E. Ramsay, 22 September 1882 (in this edition as 82-09-22c).
