A Subscriber, Cochrane Creek, via Deniliquin, N.S.W., writes:—"I am sending by this mail two small samples of grasses growing in this district on black clay soil subject to flood. Kindly let me know the name of each sample. No. 1 grows about 2 feet high, stools out well, and stock appear to be very fond of it No. 2 grows on the lower portions of land and spreads along the ground for several feet. It is green all summer, and stock do well on it". In reply, Baron von MueIIer states that
the specimens of grasses sent are all devoid of flowers and seeds; it would therefore be not safe to give names for them. If the sender will wait till flowers again develop in the spring, and than secure samples, the names could be given with certainty, and the observations made there on these grasses, as regards their value, could be fixed with certitude.
