.—Baron von Mueller identifies your specimen of grass as Pappophorum Commune, a native of continental Australia, but not extending to Tasmania or New Zealand. It also occurs in some parts of Africa and Asia. It is perennial and nutritious, though never of large growth. However, it would doubtless become more bushy under cultivation. It is particularly valuable for arid poor country, and indeed is one of our best desert grasses. As it kept green with you all last summer it should be worthy of an experiment in cultivation.]
