Dear Baron von Mueller
By today's mail in a separate packet I send you an interesting specimen in the shape of what I take to be a species of with undivided leaves, found by me a few days ago on the Blue Mts. It was a shrub about 2ft high, and the only one seen. I send you the larger & better of the two specimens I was able to bring; and as the four species recorded for this colony have divided leaves, I hope that this one may turn out to be not merely an addition to the N.S.W. flora, but at present undescribed. If you can — though the time is short — tell me anything about it in time for the Meeting on next Wednesday I will exhibit the specimen I have

M evidently agreed that Fletcher's was likely to be new. At the meeting of the Linnean Society of NSW on 29 November 1893, Fletcher exhibited the plant with its 'distinctive characters which point to the probability of its being an undescribed species' (Proceedings of the Linnean Society of NSW, 2nd series, vol. 8 (1893), p. 536). At the Society's meeting on 25 April 1894, M's formal description of fletcheri was read; see B94.09.01.
I will also take the first opportunity of endeavouring to find out something more about the species, as well as more specimens.
Yours faithfully
J. J. Fletcher
P.S. I hope the copy of the Macleay Memorial Volume sent reached you safely.
