Heute, edler Freund, erhielt ich die Exemplare von J. B. Moore's letztjährigen Jungermanniaceen zurück durch Ihre Güte, und danke dafür und namentlich auch für die immer so schnelle u. sorgsame Benennung. Die nummerlose Pflanze ohne Frucht ist , welches ich mit H. Malingi zuerst für Tasmanien durch eigne Untersuchung nachwies u. zwar schon vor Jahren, wie Sie aus dem "Second Census of Australian plants" ersehen können. H. marginatum war vorher bloss aus N. S. Wales bekannt, H. Malingi nur aus Neuseeland.

Welch eine Pracht-Pflanze unter den Jungermanniaceen, welche Sie nach Moore jetzt benannt haben. Man möchte ihn darum beneiden ! Ich denke, dass der Ordnungs Name zum Tribus Namen sinken sollte, denn Micheli's Name passt nur auf eine geringe Proportion der Jungermanniaceen, u. Rupp hatte schon vorher das Ranunculaceen Genus aufgestellt.

Man fühlt stets, wenn man eine Jungermanniacea mit blattartigen Organen die man Phylloiden nennen könnte - (nicht wirklichen Blättern) vor sich hat, dass die Bezeichnung ein Stein des Anstosses ist.

Today, noble friend, I received back the specimens of J. B. Moore's of last year through your kindness and thank you for it and especially also for the naming, always so quick and careful. The numberless plant without fruit is that I first identified with H. malingi for Tasmania by my own research and indeed some years ago, as you can see from the Second Census of Australian Plants. H. marginatum was previously known only from N. S. Wales, H. malingi only from New Zealand.

What a magnificent plant among the that you have now named after Moore.

The earliest names by Stephani honouring Moore listed in Checklist of Australian liverworts and hornworts are Bazzania mooreana and Chiloscyphus moorei, both published in January 1894 in Stephani (1894), pp. 1, 2 respectively. It is not known which of these is the species to which M refers but no other name honouring Moore is listed as published by Stephani before 1906.

He is to be envied for it! I think that the Ordinal name should sink to the Tribe name, because Micheli's name suits only a small proportion of the , and Rupp had previously already erected the Ranunculaceae genus .

Ruppius [Rupp] (1718), p. 145, names quoted without citation in Miller (1754) (unpaged).

One always feels when one has before one a Jungermanniacea with leaf-like organs, which should be called phyllodes (not true leaves), that the term is a stumbling block.
