My Dear Baron Von Mueller
Will you kindly name the enclosed a tree of medium dimensions with rough bark commonly called stringy bark. The ordinary height of this tree here is about from 60 to 80 ft, & diameter about 2 ft the wood is very hard closegrained and very durable either above or underground. I know round posts here that have stood as gate posts for 40 years and they still appear to be quite good and sound.
Yours faithfully
Wm MacDonald
Stringy bark grows here on poor soil (gravelly Ridges = slate formation) and generally forms the main bulk of the forest where it grows.
