It was reported at the meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement
of Science held in Adelaide, 25 September–3 October 1893, that it had been intended
that Sir Samuel Griffith, Chief Justice of Qld, would be nominated as President of
the Association for the next meeting, to be held in Brisbane in January 1895. At the
last minute, however, Griffith withdrew and Augustus Gregory was elected President
for the Brisbane meeting instead (see the Report of the meeting, p. xix). See also J. Thomson to M, 5 October 1893.
