T. R. Wilson Esqr
Under Secretary.
Sir
In reply to your memorandum of the 20 Sept., which reached me this morning, I have
the honor to state, that Mr G. Renner does not occupy quaters
here, but that Mr Tovey occupies the small room, adjoining the iron-annex of the
Herbarium Building. This could only be occupied by an unmarried man, so as to render
the least use of fire necessary for safety's sake.

quarters.
Mr Tovey has for this small concession to be responsible for the safekeeping of the
whole building every night and every Sunday and Holiday. As Mr Tovey's Salary is so
small, it is a help to him; and the work he carries out, is of nearly the same nature,
as that of Mr Renner, who enjoys a comparatively large salary, and who — I presume
— is only temporarely retransferred to my branch of the service, his engagement permanently
here not being necessary.

On 27 September 1893 Wilson minuted: 'Returned to the Commissioners of Audit. According
to the records of this office notification of this transfer was forwarded to the Commrs
on the 12th August last. Renner does not occupy Government quarters.'
I have the honor to be, Sir
your obedient servant
Ferd von Mueller, Gov. Botanist.
