editorial addition.
My dear Baron,
At our last meeting of the Royal Society held last Tuesday evening a letter was read from a gentleman residing in Hobart concerning the introduction into the colony of certain soft wood trees. A very important discussion took place on the subject.
It was eventually decided to ask if you would kindly favour the Society with your ideas.
2
See Papers and proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania (1893), pp. xiii-xiv. The discussion was prompted by a letter from a Mr. A. Hartley suggesting the planting of soft-wood trees such as Baltic pine.
I send you a clipping of the report of our meeting.
3
Clipping not found. For a detailed report of the discussion, see 'Royal Society of Tasmania. Suggested introduction of soft woods', Mercury (Hobart), 12 July 1893, p. 4. The report was summarized in other Tasmanian newspapers.
If you could kindly let me have your views on the matter the Council would be deeply grateful.
I remain my dear Baron
Yours very truly
Alex Morton.
