Royal Geographical Society of Australasia,
Victorian Branch,
July 6th, 1893
To His Excellency the Earl of Hopetoun, G.C.M.G. &c., &c.,
Governor of Victoria.
We have the honour to approach Your Excellency on behalf of the Victorian Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia, the Council of which solicits to convey through your Lordship, as Her Majesty’s Representative, its best felicitation on the marriage of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke of York and the Princess May of Teck, to be celebrated to-day.
So auspicious an event is hailed with delight in this Her Majesty’s far Southern Dominion, and calls forth universal rejoicing throughout the British Empire. While our Society, that enjoys the gracious patronage of the Queen, ventures on this happy festive occasion to offer in a permanent form its congratulatory sentiments to the Royal Bridegroom and Bride, and begs to express a wish that their nuptial will be one replete with happiness far into the next century. The Royal Geographical Society of Australasia here also foresees that this significant bond of domestic union will exercise a lasting influence upon the grandeur of that whole Empire over which Her Majesty in glorious reign has watched so solicitously to maintain in continued national greatness.
We have the honour to be,
Your Excellency’s most obedient Servants,
Ferdinand von Mueller, President.
A. C. Macdonald, Hon. Secretary.
Wm. Potter, Assistant Secretary.
