Adolph W. Miller Esq. M.D. &c &c
Corresponding Secretary of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy.
Honored Sir.
It is to me a most pleasurable surprise, to learn from your communication of the 29
April,
that the celebrated Philadelphia-College of Pharmacy has conferred on me the high
distinction of one of its honorary memberships. I recognize this mark of generous
attentiveness all the more, as I have so little claim to the kindness, thus shown
me in a very distant land. The election into your Institution is to me particularly
significant, as it is one of the eldest in the western hemisphere, indeed arisen before
I saw the light of the world, though I have grown grey already. Let me now ask while
conveying my best thanks to the distinguished President and Councillors of your Institute,
in what manner I can best serve the interests of your great Union, which advances
the status of a very important Profession constantly, and which promotes likewise
so very much the progress of those sciences on which that Profession so largely rests.
It will be especially gratifying to me, if I can have the privilege of aiding the
efforts for extension of applied knowledge, so splendidly made by your Institute.
