Allow me to send for your inspection, dear Dr Bride, herewith the magnificent work published in Germany for the Columbus-Jubilee.

If your grand Library not as yet has it, I would like to dispose of it at cost-price. As no Contingencies are left in my Department, I am obliged to turn anything to account monetarely, that is not absolutely required by me as private property.

See T. Bride to M, 13 June 1893 (in this edition as 93-06-13a). On 22 June 1893 the Library Committee informed Bride that the price was '75 marks'. Bride annotated, on 1 August 1893: 'Reply sent stating Trustees will purchase if price does not exceed the cost to them in the ordinary way.' Letter not found. See also T. Bride to M, 21 August 1893 (in this edition as 93-08-21b). An entry in the stock-book of the Melbourne Public Library (vol. 12, 1893), held by the State Library of Victoria, records that the work in question was acquired from M on 27 July 1893 and stamped on 5 August. The Library also has a second copy of the atlas volume, of unknown provenance.
