Letter not found. The text given here is from 'News and notes', West Australian (Perth, WA), 22 June 1893, p. 4. The same item appeared in the sister weekly paper, Western mail, 24 June 1893, p. 32. The letter was probably directed in the first instance to the West Australian, which published other, similar appeals for M — for example, M to the West Australian, August 1895 (in this edition as 95-08-00e).
[BARON VON MUELLER, Government botanist of Victoria, has written, asking the assistance of the people of this colony in making a classification and compiling a catalogue of the indigenous trees and plants, and the seaweed. He has catalogued all the specimens he had from Western Australia and now asks for others. He is particularly desirous of getting seaweed from Champion Bay, and it ought to be collected after a storm, in order that the rarer specimens may be obtained. The seaweed can be easily dried by being spread out upon a level surface and exposed to the atmosphere. Indigenous seeds or plants should now be collected, as this is the most favourable time of the year. Specimens should be sent to Sir John Forrest or Mr. Julius Herz, and the parcels marked for the Royal Geographical Society, and they will then be carried on the railways, free. The specimens will be acknowledged in the books of the Royal Geographical Society, and the names of the donors mentioned.]
