Durch diese Post sende ich Ihnen, edler Freund, Algen von der Mündung des Hopkins-River. Es ist wohl nichts Besonderes darunter, aber Sie haben noch nichts von dieser Localität gehabt; sie ist zwischen Portland-Bay u Port Fairy.
Ich werde Ihnen bald mehr senden können auch von der Encounter Bay in Süd-Australien und aus mehreren Plätzen von West Australien.
Nun möchte ich bitten, wenn Sie doch gelegentlich Algen von mir vertheilen, eine Parthie an Prof Engler für das Berliner Herbarium abzuschicken Ich bin etwas in Schuld dort, und kann bei den bedrückten Finanz Verhältnissen hier keinen Sammler mehr im Felde halten. Extra Mühe sollte Ihnen aber aus der Erfüllung dieser Bitte nicht erwachsen

By this mail I am sending you, noble friend, algae from the mouth of the Hopkins River. I suppose there is nothing significant among them but you have not yet had anything from this locality; it is between Portland Bay and Port Fairy.

Both Vic. The mouth of the Hopkins River is further east than M indicates, at Warrnambool, Vic.
I’ll soon be able to send you more from Encounter Bay in South Australia as well and from several places in Western Australia.
Now I should like to ask, if you occasionally distribute algae from me, to send a part to Professor Engler for the Berlin herbarium. I am somewhat in debt there and with the depressed financial conditions here can no longer keep a collector in the field. However, extra trouble for you should not result from fulfilment of this request.
