Will you be so kind, dear Mr Fletcher, to let me know, what will be the
latest
date
, at which I can send the intended essay for the Macleay volume on the systematic
and statistic of Australian plants.
it may take then an other weeks sparetime, to finish the treatise for you. Altho'
Prof Tate presses me also, to furnish the finishing determination of the plants of
the Elder-Expedition, I will keep him waiting til I have attended to the requirements
of the M'Leay volume. Much is done towards it; but altho' much has been done towards
it, but the Agriculture-Departm. here requires from me the carrying out of some urgent
work, which along with the heavy daily routine-engagements will take fully two weeks,
and I do however not wish, that this should be retarded in its issue on my account.
I will rather abridge it to be in time, or give it up altogether

In the event, M did not contribute the proposed paper but another, much simpler one
(B93.09.06), together with a second descriptive paper written jointly with J. H. Maiden
(B93.14.03).
