Your short note arrived yesterday
just amidst New-years festivities, dear Mr Barbey, and I at once commenced enquiries
in St Kilda, which place he had left, but the information about M. Vannod's abode
was imperfect, so I sent a second time to day, and hope to obtain some information
about the young Gentleman before the weekly mail closes this afternoon. When he called
many months ago with the introduction from you,
I gave him all possible information and advise. But he came at a time of great financial
depression, of which this colony has not recovered yet.

2
Letter of introduction not found.
My Messenger has returned just, and ascertained, that Mr Vannod has a place in Burke
& Wills Chambers, second floor, with his name at the bottom-door of this large building,
these business-chambers being in Collins Street, at the corner of Russell Street in
the principal part of the metropolis.
I will try to see the young Gentleman personally, but he seems all right.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
