Since it had evidently been intended to publish a reply, including M’s report on the specimen sent to him, in an earlier issue of the journal, i.e. at the latest in the issue of 4 February, M’s report has been dated to January 1893. 'E. Cumming' not identified.
[Name of Plants .—E. Cumming.— An answer to your questions respecting the names of weeds and shrub was made out and sent to the printer, but through some accident has been lost. The name of No. 1 is the Witch hazel, the other was sent to the Government botanist, but he was unable to make out the name from the imperfect specimen. We much regret your disappointment in the answer not appearing.]
