Letter not found. The text given here is from 'News and Notes', Southern times (Bunbury, WA), 7 October 1893, p. 3. The correspondent has not been identified, but
there were a number of residents of the area who supplied M with plant specimens;
see Maroske & Vaughan (2014) for a number of families around Busselton, Vasse and
Bunbury active at this time. Among these, R. F. Pries is known to have received the
grass Panicum spectabile from M (Southern times (Bunbury, WA), 21 August 1894, p. 3). Other collectors from the district are listed
in Australia's Virtual Herbarium (AVH).

In the issue of 30 September 1893, p. 3, the newspaper had reprinted an article from
an unidentified newspaper describing the successful control of sand drift by marram
grass at Port Fairy, Vic, and elsewhere after it was introduced by M, and stated that
plants could be obtained from the Port Fairy Borough Council. The article concluded
'it will, therefore, be perhaps well if someone will obtain a few of the roots from
the above mentioned source as their introduction in this colony might be of infinite
value to a number of the large stockowners on the coast stations'.
