Name of Grass . — Inquirer, Donald.— There were two species of grass in the last parcel you sent. The greenest of the two is Bromus unioloides, a highly valuable grass; the other, the same as the first you sent, we submitted to the Government botanist (Baron von Mueller), who says:—
The grass of which you sent a specimen I find to be , from the countries at the Mediterranean Sea. It has two other, but more recent, names— B. humilis and B. confertus. It is not a desirable grass, as the spikelets are two bristly, and as the root is annual, or perhaps biennial only, it would thus be failing in the height of summer when particularly grasses are wanted on our pastures. It is also smaller altogether than most species of Bromus.
