The plants, just received from you, dear Mr Tyson, I have named at once, so far as
this could be done quickly. Some require dissection, to make out the full name; some
few
are
new
, and one of the best will be named after you.
For many your collection gives us a new locality. I am glad, that you have an eye
also for minute plants. Please collect also all sorts of
floating
or submerged
plants
, as the aquatics of your region have been very little studied. If it was possible
for you to induce any settler on the Upper Ashburton-River
to gather plants also, then many of your species could probably be traced still further
north, perhaps even into the tropic region. Try to get as many people as possible
to collect north and east of you, so that my
geographic
tables of the West Australian plants may get completed.
May I ask also, that you collect a
seed-bearing
specimen also of any of
those plants, of which I have not yet
given the full name, as that will facilitate the examination. Mount Augustus on the
Lyons-River must have altogether
new
plants
on its top, as it is so high.
I suppose you could not go there yourself, but might get someone to collect all that
grows at and near the top.
