If my memory serves me rightly, dear Mr Shillinglaw you kindly promised to come to
me with some old books, containing pictures, connected with Columbus' Discoveries;
I hope, that I am right in this, and that I did not make a forgotten appointment.
1
The fourth centenary of Columbus's discovery of America was marked by a jubilee evening
at the Melbourne Town Hall on 12 October 1892 at which M delivered the principal address;
see B93.03.02.
I have hunted up meanwhile various works, and had of some pictures therein taken copies.
Can you kindly bring your books some morning
this
week? as time for our purpose has passed on so much already. On Sunday and some days
afterwards I am not available. It will be a
charity
to me, not to ask me to come to your place, as I am overwhelmed with departmental
work. Will you kindly excuse also to your generous neighbours, Mr & Mrs Panton, that
I did not yet call; but really I have been not master of my time
Always regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller
