Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Surveys in the interior', South Australian register, 4 August 1892, p. 5. Mr J. Carruthers, trigonometric surveyor, sent a report dated 16 July 1892 to the Surveyor General, which included reference to a 'plant which poisoned the camels', a specimen of which he sent by post. It is assumed that Holtze wrote to M as promised.
[The specimen of the plant was forwarded to the Director of the Botanical Gardens (Mr. M. Holtze), and he wrote as follows :—"The plant submitted to me yesterday is ' ,' as far as I can see without flowers or fruit. The plant is known to have poisoned numbers of cattle and sheep in New South Wales, where it is known as ' dogwood poison-bush.' I will send the plant to Baron von Mueller, but have no doubt that the above name is correct."]
