My Dear Baron
Herewith under Separate Cover I send you a Specimen of a noble looking tree about
80 ft by 2 ft 6 inches diameter [flinted] trunk rough light colored bark, timber also
white prettily grained resembling Maple in fact this tree by some of the old hands
is called "white Maple"
As the timber appears to be of value I have prepared a flitch for exhibit and will
be glad if you can name from the specimen now forwarded including leaf, bud and ripe
seed Anxiously looking for your reply to my last
giving nos 168, 169 & 170
