Heute, geehrter Herr Hofrath, habe ich dem hochberühmten Stanley bei meinem Abschiedsbesuch den letzten Abdruck Ihrer schönen General Karte Australiens gegeben, und wage nun wieder um 2 Abdrücke zu bitten, auch 2 Impressionen Ihrer prächtigen Karte der Südpolar Gegenden. Als freilich geringe Gegengabe sende ich noch ein Exemplar der "Select plants" (erweiterte 8 englische Ausgabe), in welcher die geographische Zusammenstellung der Nutzpflanzen von Seite 552 - bis 573 als ganz original und bis auf die neueste Zeit durchgeführt vielleicht Ihrer besonderen Aufmerksamkeit werth wäre. Lassen Sie auch meinen besten Dank ausgesprochen sein für das regelmässige Senden Ihrer prächtigen "Mittheilungen". Sollte von Victor. geogragraphischen

Publicationen bei Ihnen eine Lücke sein, so werde ich solche unversäumt ausfüllen. Ich wage Ihnen auch ein Lithogram zu senden, damit ich doch in Etwas für das Viele von Ihnen reciprocire.

Die von mir angeregte u. von Sir Thomas Elder ausgerüstete Expedition Lindsays hat doch etwas den einen grossen Theil des uncharti[r]ten Australiens ausgefüllt, und wird den zweiten in 1892 auch nicht mehr blank lassen, u. gleichzeitig wohl das Geschick Leichhardt's u. seiner Gefährten erkunden.

Endlich nach 9-jährigen Arbeiten unserer Gesellschaft hier, wird doch auch wohl die Geographie der Südpol-Regionen wieder aufgenommen werden. Die Mühen u. der Zeitaufwand dafür sind hier enorm gewesen. Es ist so schwer, die so vielseitig in Anspruch genom.

as an admittedly trifling return gift, in which the geographical arrangement of useful plants from page 552 to 573 as quite original and carried through up to the most recent time would perhaps be worth your particular attention. Allow my best thanks to be expressed for the regular sending of your splendid Mittheilungen. If there should be a gap in Victorian geographical publications in your office, I will not neglect to fill it. I also venture to send you a lithograph, so that I do really reciprocate in something for the many things from you.

has really somewhat filled in the one large part of unmapped Australia and will also leave the second no longer blank in 1892, and I suppose at the same time will ascertain the fate of Leichhardt and his companions.

At last after nine years of work by our Society here, the geography of the South Pole regions will also again probably be taken up. The effort and the time taken for it has been enormous here. It is so difficult to enthuse the colonists who are preoccupied in so many ways for an undertaking of such a kind!

However little inviting the newly discovered desert stretches may be, the whole region will be accessible for colonization in the course of time by damming of rain water and artesian boring.
