Sehr bedauernd habe ich Ihnen mitzutheilen, hochgeehrter Herr Dr Nordstedt, dass bei der jetzigen Finanzlage von Victoria, die Betriebs-Mittel meines Departements so vom Ministerium verringert sind, dass mir kaum ein Viertel übrigbleibt. Drei-Viertel ist im Budget abgezogen! Sie werden einsehen, dass unter solcher Verkürzung der Gelder es mir unmöglich ist, irgend eine Publication fortzusetzen , so dass leider auch die Fortsetzung Ihrer schönen Monographie der Characeen Australiens, sollte solche von einer Melbourne Subsidie abhängen, eingestellt werden muss. Was bereits zum Druck gesandt ist, werde ich selbstverständlich subsidiar bezahlen.

Very regretfully I have to inform you, highly esteemed Dr Nordstedt, that with the present financial situation of Victoria, the working funds of my department are so reduced by the ministry that hardly a quarter remains for me. Three quarters was withdrawn in the budget! You will see that under such a reduction of money it is impossible for me to continue any kind of publication , so that unfortunately even the continuation of your beautiful monograph of Australian
