Letter not found. For the text given here, see South Australian register , 13 October 1892, p. 11. The text is an extract from the 'periodical report' of the Secretary, A. Molineux, to a meeting of the Central Bureau of Agriculture held on 10 October 1892.
[Seeds of nine varieties of Californian native phylloxera-resistant vines were presented to the Central Bureau, first by the Director of State Forests, California, and secondly by Baron F. von Mueller, and these were distributed among the branches.]

The report adds: 'Stansbury Branch declares that the seeds sent proved to be those of a vetch, and sends a plant of vetch over as prook. As the seeds sent out from the office were undoubtedly those of grapes, and as no other seeds were packed or sent at the same time, it is puzzling to account for the vetches.' It is thus clear that the seeds had been received and distributed some time earlier.
