We the Undersigned beg to propose
Albert Molineux Esqr., the Secretary of the Agricultural Bureau of Adelaide, for the Fellowship of the Linnéan Society, he having fair qualifications for this honor by his ichthyologic researches during 25 years trawling on the S. A. coast, by his discovery of the Echidna-egg, the Neobalaena marginata, the new marsupial mole-like animal
2
The attribution of ‘discovery’ in the citation is misleading. For example, the marsupial mole Molineux sent to the SA Museum was preliminarily described by E. Stirling (1889), with a formal description later (E. Stirling (1891)); Molineux is not mentioned in Haacke (1885) as the supplier of the Echidna that provided an egg; the reference to Neobalaena refers to Molineux’s acquisition of a skeleton of the pygmy whale for the South Australian Museum.
and various other zoologic discoveries, as well as by his extensive observations in S. A. on culture-plants.
