The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the scientific committee of the Royal Horticultural Society held on 10 November1891, Gardener's chronicle , 21 November 1891, p. 621. It is not certain whether the letter was addressed to Masters personally, or to the Gardeners' chronicle , of which he was editor. The text makes it less likely that it was addressed to the Royal Horticultural Society.
