H. Moors Esqr &c
Acting Undersecretary
Sir.
In continuance of former correspondence
I have the honor to solicit, that I may be allowed, to retain til the end of this
year the temporary services of George French as Messenger of the Gov. Botanist's establishment,
under previous arrangement, namely four days each week, daily payment 5/-. Young French
is so conversant with the special duties, devolving on him, that it would take a long
time, to train any one else for the position, and thus much time will be saved to
me, if I could keep him on longer. As the expenditure is so small, and as it is defrayed
out of the incidental vote, I hope the hon. the Chief Secretary will grant this favor

M sought permission to continue the employment of G. French Jr in M to A. Deakin,
14 March 1890; M to T. Wilson, 1 July 1890; M to T. Wilson, 3 September 1890 (in this edition as 90-09-03a); M to G. Langridge, 26 November 1890 and M to G. Langridge, 24 March 1891.

On 15 July, the Chief Secretary, A. McLean, minuted: 'Continue to end of this year'. Moors forwarded
this information to M with the note: 'At the end of the year it is probable that some
other arrangement will have to be made'. M returned the file 'with best thanks for the consideration shown' on 16 July and it was forwarded to the Commissioners
of Audit.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov Botanist.
