[Re considering to change the name of E. odoratissima to E. Fitzgeraldi
2
In Bailey (1891a), p. 12, following a formal description of under M's and his names jointly, Bailey wrote:
While these pages were being printed—following my usual custom—I sent to Baron Mueller for the Victorian herbarium specimens of all the new species recorded. From these he found the new Eugenia, which I had named E. odoratissima, was identical with a species from the Richmond River [NSW], which he had described, but not published under the name of E. Fitzgeraldi. I have therefore, at Baron Mueller's request, allowed my name to lapse that this lovely species may bear the name of our mutual friend and fellow worker, R. D. Fitzgerald, the author of an excellently illustrated monograph of the Australia Orchideae.
