When I lately sent you two small books, dear Dr Bride, published by J. Spottiswood
Wilson, I had not made myself acquainted with their contents. He was a member of Gregory's
North Australian Expedition to which he was appointed by Sir Roderick Murchison.
Thus these books were sent to me as a former traveling companion of his. Neither
of the two books I have read, as my little occasional sparetime was taken up by geographic
work lately. I find now however from a letter of a friend, to whom I gave a copy,
that the book on the nebular theory
contains some
irreligious
ideas in the worst of wording and I would therefore beg of you to put these books,
if you keep them at all so far aside that they are not accessible to the generality
of readers. I regret very much my incautiousness.
1
North Australian Exploring Expedition, 1855-6.
2
J. S. Wilson (1889), J. S. Wilson (1890). Neither volume is now held by the State Library of Victoria.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
