MS is an annotation by M on W. Brown to M, 14 April 1891. There are also annotations by G. Perrin, whose comments consist of a couple of sentences that are nearly illegible but refer back to M's remarks, and D. [G.] Martin who commented on 7 May 1891: 'Returned to Mr Brown I agree with Baron von Mueller. I think there will however be a difficulty in obtaining some of the specimens'.

This list, excerpted at Dookie from the last edition of the "Select Plants", gives many of the leading timber-trees of the extratropic zones, but does not by far exhaust the available species; still it would be sufficient at the commencement for guiding in the formation of a timber-arboretum there. Thus many Pines, Oaks, Maples, Ashes, Eucalypts and other kinds of timber-trees might be added later on. Some few species have been marked O by me, because it cannot be expected, that they would thrive at Dookie with its extensive range of temperature. Various other species might also have been nullified, but whether they will live there must much depend on the extent of care, which can be bestowed on their rearing and on the subsequent treatment at that spot.
