gelesen, und finde die Rathschläge, welche Sie für die Verminderung dieser Land-Plagen
geben, sehr passend.

erfordert critische Untersuchung, was einige Zeit nehmen wird.

Sie wissen vielleicht nicht einmal, dass ich in meiner jetzigen Bureau ziemlich
entfernt
von meinen grossen Sammlungen lebe, nachdem mir durch Nepotismus, Neid und Unkunde
mein Garten entzogen wurde. Dies erklärt es, warum ich nicht immer gleich irgend eine
Pflanze im ganzen Zusammenhang studiren kann. Selbst wenn nicht immer vielmehr verantwortliche,
namentlich rurale, Amtspflichten vorlägen. Eben fertig mit den grossen Verpflichtungen
für Sir Th. Elder's Expedition, bin ich nun als Neben Arbeit sehr in Anspruch genommen,
um nach

jährigen mühsamen Bestrebungen endlich die neue antartische Forschung zu Stande zu
bringen. Alles dies erfordert nicht nur Zeit Opfer, sondern auch Geld-Aufwand.

(Private) Perhaps you do not even know that I live in my present office rather
distant
from my large collections, after I was deprived of my garden through nepotism, jealousy
and ignorance. This explains why I cannot always immediately study any one plant in
complete context. Even if rather responsible, especially rural, official duties were
not always present. Just finished with the large commitments for Sir Thomas Elder's
Expedition,
I am now very taken up with extra work, finally bringing about the new Antarctic
research after

years of arduous effort.
All this requires not only sacrifice of time, but also of money.
