MS written by G. Luehmann and signed by M.
Sir
In reply to your enquiry
regarding the duties of George French, temporarily employed in the Govt. Botanist's
Branch, I have the honor to inform you, that he is partly engaged in making up collections
of seeds for correspondents, partly in laying out newly arrived botanical specimens,
in which work he has acquired considerable experience and thus saves a great deal
of time to the permanent officers. Otherwise he is employed in going errands, keeping
office-rooms in order etc.

No written inquiry
to this effect
has been found, but one may have been made orally.
The inquiry was no doubt prompted by M to
G. Langridge, 24 March 1891.

M requested a further extension of French's engagement in M to H. Moors, 9 July 1891.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most obedient servant
Ferd von Mueller
Govt. Botanist
The Under Secretary
