Letter not found. The text given here is from a full-page article, 'The jubilee year of the Gardeners' chronicle ', Gardeners' chronicle , 30 May 1891, p. 688. Following a short history, the page consists of congratulatory statements from other journals, with a small number from individuals. The page was reprinted in a number of later issues. The letter is dated to April as the latest that it could have been sent. The latest dated message is from ' Le Jardin , Paris, March 20, 1891', which is consistent with a date of April for M's letter, although it is possible that he sent it much earlier.
Let me offer my best felicitation on the semi- centenary jubilee of your splendid Chronicle , which you have edited with so much talent, knowledge, and discrimination, for so long a while as the worthy successor of the great Lindley. Wishing the Gardeners' Chronicle also in future a splendid success under your able leadership, I remain,
Ferd. von Mueller, Melbourne.
