Undated fragment. Nicholas Holtze is identified as correspondent, rather than his father Maurice Holtze, since M consistently wrote to Nicholas in English whereas he always used German when writing to Maurice. All the specimens listed that have been found in MEL were collected in the NT and are dated to 1891; the item is dated on that basis. Nicholas probably sent the specimens after Maurice moved to Adelaide in mid-1891 and Nicholas succeeded him as curator of the Darwin Botanic Garden.

MEL 2091518 has M's label identifying the specimen as , with a collector's label, 'W. Holtze, Powells Creek, 1891, no. 1280', i.e. Waldemar Holtze, the brother of Nicholas, who is known to have collected botanical specimens while serving as a telegraph operator at Powells Creek. Several other specimens besides the Mirbelia were collected by Waldemar at Powells Creek; none appear to have been collected by Maurice Holtze.
