T. R. Wilson Esqr,
Under Secretary.
Sir
As the end of the year is approaching again, I have the honor to solicit, that the
honorable the Chief Secretary will be pleased, to recommend to the Government, that
I be left in the performance of my duties, altho' I completed some few months ago
my 65th year. I feel quite able, to carry on the obligations of the Office of Governm. Botanist, and as I formed the
establishment, I can with particular experience and facility attend to the duties
of this office. I pointed out before, that I have sunk all my worldly means and all
my time throughout in the service of this branch of the Department.

This file also contains a letter, in an unknown hand, dated 29 December 1890, from
the Chief Secretary's Office, to James Munro, Premier, requesting the continued employment
of several men, including M, until 30 June 1891. The reasons given were the same as
those cited in the notes with M to A. Deakin, 5 April 1890. E. Thomas, Secretary to the Premier, wrote to Wilson on 8 January 1891 to say that
'an Order in Council has been obtained retaining the services' of M and the other
men as requested (S91/259, unit 572, VPRS 3992/P, Public Record Office, Victoria).
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
