Musson included a handwritten transcription of M’s letter in an application that he
lodged on 17 May 1893 for the position of Curator of the Sydney Botanic Garden, which
he had heard was about to become vacant.
It is very pleasing to learn, dear Mr. Musson, that your prospects are good for gaining
a position in the Agricultural Department of N.S.W;
in which your talents, your experiences and your zeal will then have such a splendid
scope.

Musson was appointed to the staff of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College in 1891.
Your tendencies moreover are so practical, and you are so accustomed to bush travels,
that whatever will devolve on you, is sure to be resultfully carried out.
Wishing you the best success in your career,
Ferd. von Mueller.
